Personalizing messages for contacts

Personalizing messages to each contact is a great way to increase your reply rates. Messages can be personalized within the Preview and Tasks tabs of a sequence or within the Tasks dashboard. We recommend personalizing the initial message in the sequence and we can help you handle the follow-ups!


Personalizing individual messages in sequences

To personalize a message for an individual contact, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Preview tab in the sequence.
  2. Search for the contact you would like to personalize the message for in the search bar on the left.
  3. After selecting the contact, you can edit the message and personalize it to your liking in the editor.
  4. After personalizing the message, click "Save" to save the changes. Once the message has been saved for the contact, it will mark that email step as "Personalized" for that contact.


Personalizing messages in the sequence's Tasks tab 

To personalize messages for multiple contacts, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Tasks tab in the sequence.
  2. Select the contact you would like to personalize the message for from the Tasks list. 
  3. After selecting the contact, you can edit the message and personalize it to your liking in the editor.
  4. After personalizing the message, click "Save" to save the changes. Once the message has been saved for the contact, it will display the next contact's message in the editor for you to personalize. 


Personalizing messages in the Tasks dashboard

In the Tasks dashboard, you will see a list of contacts that need personalization and an editor to personalize the message. You can also see an overview for each contact to help you while you craft your message.

In order to see the list of contacts who require personalization in the Tasks dashboard, the sequences they exist in need to be launched first.

Contacts can also be removed from the Tasks dashboard if you no longer want to email them by clicking the trash can icon:

You can also switch between teammates to personalize emails in their sequences by clicking the drop-down menu on the left-hand side:


Setting up personalized emails up for specific steps

If you would like to activate personalization for a specific step within a sequence, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the gear icon in the email step.
  2. Toggle on the "Require Personalized Message" button.
  3. Click "Save" to save the changes.

When the "Require Personalized Message" setting is enabled, it will highlight this in the email step. 

Now, when any of your contacts reach that step, you will be asked to personalize their message before the email can be sent out. 

Note: Stats for personalized messages will appear in the the Totals & Averages for the step that was personalized. 
Important: Personalized messages will remain in the original sequence they were created in and cannot be transferred over to another user.
