Sequence step scheduling
If you want to control how follow-up email steps are sent, we recommend using the Days to Wait option. This will allow you to choose how many days you want to pass in between each email step or follow-up message.
To adjust this, go into an email sequence's steps, then click the calendar icon.
For the first email step, you can enter "0" days if you would like the email to go out within the first 10 minutes of launching the sequence.
For follow-up emails, you must enter a minimum of "1" day to wait because these follow-ups cannot be sent out the same day as the first email step.
A great example for using this feature would be that your first email is sent out on Monday and you set the second email to send 2 days after. This means the next email will send out on Wednesday.
Now, how would this be affected when you have a specific email schedule set up?
Let's say you have your email schedule set for Monday - Friday and your step schedule is set to send two days after. From there, you send your first message on Thursday. Your follow-up email will be scheduled to send on Saturday because of the step schedule, however it won't actually send until the next available day in your email schedule. This means we'll wait until Monday to send the follow-up since this is the next available day in your schedule.
Advanced rules to consider:
- Interseller pools all contacts from active sequences together and prioritizes sending follow-up emails (email step 2 and beyond) before we begin sending the first initial email to other contacts. We then prioritize contacts with the highest amount of time since they were last messaged or the earliest date created.
- The order of your sequences does not affect the order of which emails get sent. We will send emails based on the rules mentioned above. If you want to prioritize one sequence over the other, you will need to pause all other sequences from sending.
- Paused contacts will not be sent messages until the day after they have been paused. The number of days to wait between steps does not get affected.
- Contacts with errors will not receive a message until you resolve or clear the errors on them.
- Please keep in mind that there is a 10 minute delay to sending messages if you do any kind of message customization, edit any fields in a contact or make changes to the entire sequence. This will give you some time to make changes after you have added these options.
- If contacts received all the emails in the sequence and additional steps are added, they will continue to be sent the next step based on when the next step is set to send out.
- We don't recommend removing email steps between the first and last email in an active sequence since this can cause issues with email deliverability. However, removing the last step in the sequence will not cause any issues since it will now consider the email before that as the new last email step.
